Since back in the days of the spring and summer 2002 – when Mosaic met in the living room of a home on the East side – we have believed that “community” was less a buzzword, more a way of life. We wanted to model community even in the way the church was led. Don Vanderslice and Brian Seay co-pastored Mosaic in the beginning … and when the Seays moved to Nashville, a Leadership Team was formed to help shepherd the community and navigate its journey.

Our Leadership Team is selected through a long community-consensus process. All nominations for the Team are made at the end of a one-day silent retreat. Those names are prayed through and discussed by the Leadership Team and the final names are brought back before Mosaic for conversation and consideration.

Leadership Team members are committed to being:

Frequent in presence,

Faithful in giving,

Responsible in relationships,

Enthusiastic about inviting and including others,

Disciplined in prayer, Bible study, fasting, meditation, and silence,

Missionally engaged in community and culture.

As a participant in Mosaic, a servant. As a counselor to others, wise.

Imperfect in all areas but accepting the challenge to grow where she or he is weak. We agree to set the standard high because we will not be a mediocre sacrifice and will not offer to God that which costs us nothing.

Listed below are Mosaic’s Staff and Leadership Team members. Please feel free to contact them if you have questions, concerns, or if you’d just like to grab a cup of coffee.

Glen Barbier
(Leadership Team) is widowed and has two married children, Jill and Scott. He has a granddaughter named Reagan who is two. He works as a connector with Connexion House and in his spare time is an existential detective.

Sabrina Chan (Leadership Team) has been with Mosaic since the early days. She had a former life as a computer engineer before joining staff with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. She loves music and sundubu jjigae, but not three-sentence bios.

Lesley Clayton (Leadership Team) lives in South Austin with two ladies and a cabbage patch. She writes all sorts of things–sometime stories, which make her happy, but mostly obituaries, which make her sad. She would love it if you could take some of this cilantro off her hands.

Macey Garwood (Leadership Team) has lived in Austin for 7 years and gone to Mosaic the last 5. She and her husband Bryan enjoy traveling, music, friendships, and being outside.

Carrie Graham (Pastor of Shalom) has been at Mosaic since summer of 2009, just after moving to Austin from Los Angeles. She has worked for Mosaic since February 1, 2010 . She likes listening to and playing music, dancing, theology, and chai. She is afraid of the dentist. She rewards herself with tooth-destructing but tasty ice cream after successfully completed visits to the dentist.

Chris Margrave (Leadership Team) is married to Jenny and together they have two daughters, Ellaiden and Soren. Chris works in the film department at UT. He’ll tell you a story if you ask for one.

KC McDade (Leadership Team) has been at Mosaic since the Spring of 2004. He moved here to take a job making maps, a job he still does to this day.

Kim Myrick (Leadership Team) was born and raised in Austin. She’s a massage therapist who enjoys painting and photography in her free time (which doesn’t really exist because of her 1 year old daughter, Ada).

Sam Myrick (Pastor of Community & Contemplation) is a native of Louisiana who has lived in Austin the last 4 years and has worked at Mosaic the last 3. He’s crazy about his daughter and thinks baseball is superior to all other sports.

Kristen Pearson (Leadership Team) has been part of Mosaic since the spring of 2004. She works as a social worker in the Austin area and spends the rest of the time with her husband Mark and 2-year-old daughter Naomi.

Jeni Schurman (Leadership Team) is a social worker here in Austin. She is a native Texan but moved most recently from Boulder, Colorado a few years ago.

Don Vanderslice (Pastor) has been with Mosaic since she was an embryo. He and his wife Emily have two kids, Jackson (age nine) and Allison (age six) – both former embryos. Don runs a lot, passionately defends the National Basketball Association, and agrees with Rakim that Eric B. Is President.

Seth Woods (Music Pastor) has been at Mosaic and in Austin since 2003. He loves playing and listening to music. He’s not very good at bikes or gardens, but hopes to improve. We think he may be descended from hobbits.
