Simply put, worship is honoring God. We believe that this is not a weekly event for the church; it’s a way of life (Romans 12:1,2). The potential for worship lies in every moment – creating something, the going about of daily chores, reading the paper, sharing a meal, playing with kids, talking to a neighbor. When we define worship as an event we run the risk of seeing the everyday as something devoid of worship.

Liturgy is the patterns, forms, and words through which participate in corporate worship. In Greek “liturgy” means “the work of the people.” It is that “something” that we share when we come together as God’s people. Liturgy creates the space for the communal act of remembering God’s story and for discovering (and rediscovering) our place in it. It provides a place for our listening to and wrestling with God. In liturgy we “engage in the mystery of God at work in the world.”

Since the first century followers of Christ have gathered together on the first day of the week for shared liturgy – a time set aside to celebrate the resurrection, to remember the great acts of God, and to add voice to their own communal experience of life and faith. These gatherings took shape in countless ways as the gospel was expressed uniquely in each culture.

Our liturgy is designed to allow this engagement to take place, bringing together the ancient signs and symbols of our tradition along with the visual arts, scripture reading, storytelling and a music created out of our own community.

We at Mosaic follow this rich tradition of diversity and orthodoxy, combining elements of the ancient church while interpreting the liturgical expression for our own local context.
